WHAT IS NEUROMUSCULAR THERAPY?

NMT breaks the stress-tension-pain cycles while aiming to relax muscles so that circulation can increase and the body will return to normal balance (homeostasis). These techniques restore structural, functional and postural integrity of the body removing restrictions and adhesions. NMT also reduces pain and improves postural dysfunctions of the body (kyphosis/scoliosis/lordosis).  NMT improves joint pain, increases flexibility, increases muscle strength, circulation and overall range of motion. NMT is highly effective for clients who have chronic pain and is very successful in reducing or eliminating even long standing painful conditions.  Some techniques can be applied to acute injuries and for post-surgical care.  NMT also aids in the improvement and performance in sports and dance and to prevent injuries due to these activities.

WHAT ARE TRIGGER POINTS?

Trigger Points are areas of hypersensitivity in a muscle caused by overstrain.  They are small areas of the muscles in which their is a contracture of muscular tissue (Knots in the muscle}.  Blood and nutrients are lacking in that part of the muscle spindle which is unable to relax.  Trigger Points cause pain, fatigue, weakness in the muscle and a phenomenon called referral pain.

WHAT IS REFERRAL PAIN?

Referral pain is caused by trigger points and is a phenomenon in which areas far from the Trigger point suffer sensations of pain, tingling or numbness.

5 PRIMARY CAUSES OF PAIN

* Ischemia: Lack of blood supply to soft tissues which causes hypersensitivity to touch.

* Trigger Points: Highly irritated points in muscles which refer pain to other parts of the body.

* Nerve Entrapment/Compression: Pressure on a nerve by soft tissue, cartilage or bone.

* Postural Distortion: Imbalance of the muscular system resulting from the movement of the body off the longitudinal and horizontal planes.

* Biomechanical Dysfunction: Imbalances of the musculoskeletal system resulting in faulty movement patterns.

What does NMT help?

Neuromuscular Therapy provides pain relief of headaches/Migraines, TMJ, Sciatica, Bulging/Herniated discs, Fibromyalgia, Tennis/Golfers Elbow, Rotator Cuff, Neck pain, back pain, Whiplash, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Scoliosis, Lordosis, and Kyphosis. Theresa can specifically design a treatment program tailored to your needs based upon your medical history, postural assessment, pain patterns and injuries. In her program she will use specific muscle techniques to manipulate the soft tissue to bring balance back to the CNS (Central Nervous System).
